Hike from there or drive 2 miles by road to RIM ROCK NATIONAL TRAIL where you can
explore an ancient Indian wall and Ox Lot Cave. This is one of the most scenic trails in the
almost 300,000 acre Shawnee National Forest. One can walk the 1/8 mile trail around the
top of "the Rim". But the real beauty of the area comes on a trail half way around the Rim
as one takes the stairway down through a narrow rock Indian passage to see massive rock
cliffs and boulders then on down to a wonderful valley finding a huge rock shelter bluff and

feet up in the air among native hardwoods and hundred year old cedar trees of the Ozarks
is a sight almost too marvelous for words. Camel's Rock, Devil's Smokestack, Anvil Rock,
"H" Rock are featured formations amid mountain valleys and streams, surrounded by over
3,000 acres of wilderness area that is relatively undisturbed.
CAVE IN ROCK STATE PARK features a 55 feet wide cave on the Ohio River steeped in
history of river pirates. The park hosts spectacular river views with picnic areas, both
fishing from the river and a trout pond.
CAVE IN ROCK FREE FERRY, the only ferry to cross the Ohio River from Illinios, takes
you across to the Kentucky Amish country with many shops and an Amish Bakery.
TOWER ROCK TRAIL allows you to hike to the top of this majestic rock bluff rising 160
feet above the Ohio River.
